CME Group Hits Record Average Daily Volume in Derivatives Trading
CME Group shattered its monthly trading volume record in April 2025, with average daily volume (ADV) surging 36% year-over-year to 35.9 million contracts. The derivatives powerhouse saw particularly strong activity in interest rate products, where ADV jumped 46% to 18.4 million contracts.
Equity index and metals products both reached historic monthly ADV levels at 9.7 million and 1 million contracts respectively. The exchange also posted record volumes in SOFR futures (6 million contracts), Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 futures (2.3 million), and U.S. Treasury options (1.8 million).
International participation reached new heights with 10.9 million contracts traded daily, underscoring the growing global demand for sophisticated risk management tools. These figures demonstrate institutional investors’ increasing reliance on regulated derivatives markets amid volatile macroeconomic conditions.
